Chris & Emily's Engagement Session
Now, this is a special one. Not only because this is my sister, Emily, but also because this session was so unique and personal to Emily and Chris. I know I’m biased, but I’m sure this is the most wonderful engagement session I’ve ever seen.
When Emily and Chris got engaged, I was devastated… Hahah! Not for the reason you think! I was devastated because Chris didn’t TELL MEEEE! Now, Chris and I are very close. He’s my sweet little brother that I never had! But that also means he knows me pretty well. He knows I talk to Emily every day and he knows that every year I spoil almost all of the Christmas surprises I’ve managed to come up with. So, ya know, I don’t blame him! But his proposal was magical. He took Emily to their favorite bed and breakfast in town and had spent the previous two days setting up this incredible scene with Christmas lights and lanterns and pumpkins and candles. It was amaaaaazing. I can’t show you any pictures of that…Because I don’t have them!! Harumph… But what I do have is a collection of fantastic, and I mean FAN-TASTIC, pictures that I took that next weekend. Because as soon as I got the call, I got in the car the next morning to trek it to Raleigh!
Emily and Chris bought a house together last year, and they have been working super hard on making it their own in every moment of their spare time. So when we started to talk about their engagement session and where they might like to take pictures, we immediately thought of their home. Building a home together is so romantic! And it is such a perfect slice of life for these two who are launching into their futures together.
We put on our painting clothes, laid down a drop cloth, and got to work for the engagement session!! Chris and Emily didn’t get much painted, but they did create some incredible moments that highlight the fun that these two have together and the sweetness that is their relationship.
After we got a little paint-y and wildly cute, we washed up quickly and jumped in the car. Right around the corner from Emily and Chris’s new house are a lovely pond and hiking trails that set the scene for our second set of photos. We wandered around the old mill, danced by the pond, and spotted some lily pads off the corner of the dock.
In every place we stopped, Emily and Chris gave me these beautiful photos of connection and love interspersed between equally fantastic moments of silliness and fun. Emily has always been my favorite person to photograph and I am so happy that she has found someone who is absolutely as much of a joy to be around as she is.
P.S. Forgive how long this blog is, but I have to share one more series. As you can probably tell, Emily and Chris love to dance with each other. One year, Emily and Chris decided to learn a ballet lift just for fun. This session was the perfect time to whip it out again. Now, it had been a while since they did it, but the pictures of the trial runs might be some of my favorite in my career.
